I don’t have time or can’t afford to exercise and eat right…. Actually can you afford NOT to?

To fully understand the cost of being an overweight nation we need to understand how much money is spent on health care annually treating preventable diseases such as high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, COPD, and many forms of cancer.  In 2007 $2.3 TRILLION or $7600 per person was spent on health care.  The total spending on health care represented 16 percent of the gross domestic product.  In 2007, employer health insurance premiums increased by 6.1 percent - two times the rate of inflation. The annual premium for an employer health plan covering a family of four averaged nearly $12,100. The annual premium for single coverage averaged over $4,400

The cost of not eating healthy balanced meals and getting regular exercise is hitting us hard in our bank accounts.  At a time when our economy is the hardest hit that it’s been since the Depression we have an unparalleled opportunity to change how we live.  If we want to save money and help our employers stay profitable we all have to do our part and the simplest thing that we can do is eat right and exercise.
