In the End It Really is About Forgiveness

I came to the realization years ago that forgiveness really isn’t for the person being forgiven it is the beginning of our own healing. It doesn’t take much to get caught up blame game - blaming everyone and everything for where we are in life. The problem is that it does not serve us.

When we begin blaming everyone and everything for where we are in life we give our own power away. This leads people to what I call the ‘victim mentality’. When we begin to take responsibility for our lives and our actions we begin to reclaim our own personal power. We can’t change what has happened to us but we can change how we let it impact our day to day lives.

There is an amazing power in forgiveness. It is when we forgive those who trespass against us that we become free of their bondage. Forgiveness has nothing to do with those we forgive. Yet it has everything to do with us and our own healing. When we forgive begin to be able to let go of past pain so that we can begin to live. It is vital that we forgive ourselves as well. After all we did the best we could at the time. All anyone can ever ask of us on any given day is our best effort. Sometimes our best effort is spectacular and sometimes it’s pretty pitiful. It doesn’t matter as long as it is our best effort.

It’s important to ask ourselves if the anger and pain that we carry is helping us or harming us. If it is harming us then it is time to set down the burden and move on as best we can. It is when we forgive ourselves and forgive others that we can begin to move forward on our journey of self discovery.
