FAQ > Your Fitness Program > Why do you think it's such a struggle for people to get started on a healthier lifestyle?
There are many variables that come into play when starting anything new. I think that the greatest challenge for people who want to start being more active and healthier is that they really don't know where to start. It can be overwhelming. There is so much differing information out there. How is someone supposed to find out what's right for him or her?
I truly believe that people want to be healthy and fit, but it just seems so daunting that it's hard to even begin. That is why I spend so much time educating people about the benefits of making small changes over time. I heard a saying years ago that you can eat an elephant one bite at a time, and it really stayed with me. Even the most daunting task or goal becomes attainable when broken down into to little steps that can be taken daily.
Another challenge that we face is that we live in an instant-gratification society; it seems like no matter what it is we want, we can have it almost immediately. Combine that with being constantly bombarded with what media tells us is the ideal, which is something that no one can attain, and it not only doesn't seem possible, it doesn't seem worth the effort.
I guess that you can say that I am on a crusade to help inactive people become active so that they can live life - their life to the very fullest. When we focus on having fun and on activities that we enjoy, we start enjoying life more and having more fun. Life is too short to be miserable.
I have seen many, many people transform their lives by focusing on becoming more active. They start to do the things that they used to enjoy and never thought that they would again. It absolutely makes my heart soar to hear my clients tell me about their successes. I know that their lives and the lives of those they love are positively impacted, because they can be more engaged in life.
Remember that little changes over time yield huge results.
